About the Artist

Bonnie Carter, Visual Artist

Bonnie Carter was born and raised in New Hampshire and  has lived in Florida for 45 years.  Over the years she has stayed busy working, raising children, and pursuing different creative interests.  Her interest in art started as a form of self expression.  "Taking a blank piece of anything- wood, glass, fabric, paper- and making it into  something, has always intrigued me."  She demonstrated this wonder of creating something from nothing in sewing, quilting, and stained glass.  Colors and patterns have always intrigued her.  Picking up a brush later in life was just another way of expressing her creativity.  Her painting "Lori's Luscious Pears" won third place in the student division  "Artist's Magazine" shortly after she started painting and she has won awards at several local art shows.

Her paintings are largely intuitive and express her love of color.  Her subject matter often documents the  unique faces and places that catch her attention on her travels with her husband.

Bonnie paints almost daily in her home studio and joins 7 other women (Painting Partners) once a week at her art teacher's studio.  She is a member of the Art and Antique Studio Gallery and belongs to several painting associations, including Florida Watercolor Society and the National Collage Society.  Bonnie takes advantage of the many well-known teachers who present  workshops in her area and has taken classes at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.  When not painting, she enjoys traveling with her husband, spending time with granchildren, reading and photography.

Artist's Statement:
"Watercolor drew me in with its luminosity and honesty; collage challenges my creativity.  My paintings are a personal statement that try to capture the essence and atmosphere of places I've been and faces I've seen.  I hope they convey these same feelings to the viewer."
